Todavía hoy, surgen dudas sobre las diferencias entre la tecnología LED y las pantallas de plasma, sobre todo cuando nos dirigimos a la compra de televisores, monitores y otras pantallas para el uso en el hogar. Por nuestra parte, en RPG Technology, hemos comprobado la efectividad del LED para la información, el entretenimiento y la publicidad digital a gran escala y para un público más amplio. Las pantallas de plasma, aunque no son nuestra especialidad, merecen un espacio para que conozcas cómo diferenciarlas y las ventajas y desventajas de su uso.

¿Qué son las pantallas de plasma?

Desde 1970 se emplea esta tecnología. Para su funcionamiento, se fusionan mediante corriente eléctrica dos gases: el neón y el xenón, que se encuentran en dos cristales dentro de las pantallas. Al calentarse, se convierten en plasma y producen una luz ultravioleta invisible al ojo humano, pero al descomponerse en luces rojas, verdes y azules, dan paso a la luz en cada píxel de la pantalla.

¿Qué beneficios tienen?

En los últimos años, ha ganado popularidad el uso de pantallas de plasma de 32 pulgadas en adelante. Si bien no son útiles para publicidad a gran escala, su uso doméstico está muy extendido y es verdaderamente un medio cómodo para la visualización.
El precio de las pantallas de plasma es ínfimo frente a la tecnología LED. Su relación calidad – precio figura entre los mejores, pues es barato y excelente para la disposición de información. Por si fuera poco, el contraste obtenido en sus imágenes no tiene precedentes.
Las imágenes que se proyectan en las pantallas de plasma llegan muy rápido, incluso con un encendido inesperado. Su ángulo de visión no es para nada despreciable y aporta negros más intensos, incluso, que del LED o el LCD. El llamado “efecto fantasma” es poco probable en estas pantallas, es decir, aunque varíen los contenidos con rapidez, no queda una marca drástica en la pantalla.

¿Qué desventajas tienen las pantallas de plasma?

Aunque el uso de las pantallas de plasma se ha extendido en los hogares, vale la pena resaltar por qué no las empleamos en la publicidad digital. En primer lugar, son realmente frágiles y se afectan fácilmente durante su transportación e instalación. Comparada con las pantallas LED, su vida útil no es muy duradera y se estima en unas 30.000 horas, cuando la de sus homólogas asciende a 100.000, incluso con funcionamiento ininterrumpido las 24 horas del día.

A pesar del excelente contraste que ofrecen y los altos niveles de negros y grises, las pantallas de plasma aportan un brillo insuficiente como para captar la atención de clientes potenciales en la vía o en zonas concurridas. Realmente, no son lo suficientemente eficientes como para emplearlas en la publicidad digital. El LED, por su parte, es muy eficiente y útil en este sentido.

Conclusiones

Si de publicidad, información y entretenimiento se trata, definitivamente te recomendaremos las pantallas LED, por su precisión y homogeneidad en las imágenes, su brillo, resolución y nitidez. Para el uso domiciliario, las pantallas de plasma pueden ser más cómodas, baratas y útiles.
