Differences between plasma screens and LED technology

Still today, doubts arise about the differences between LED technology and plasma screens, especially when we go to the purchase of televisions, monitors and other screens for use in the home. For our part, at RPG Technology, we have proven the effectiveness of LED for information, entertainment and digital advertising on a large scale and for a wider audience. Plasma screens, although they are not our specialty, deserve a space for you to learn how to differentiate them and the advantages and disadvantages of their use.

What are plasma screens?

Since 1970 this technology has been used. For its operation, two gases are fused by electric current: neon and xenon, which are found in two crystals inside the screens. When heated, they turn into plasma and produce ultraviolet light that is invisible to the human eye, but when they break down into red, green, and blue light, they give way to light in every pixel on the screen.

What benefits do they have?

  • In recent years, the use of plasma screens of 32 inches and above has gained popularity. Although they are not useful for large-scale advertising, they are widely used at home and are indeed a convenient medium for display.
  • The price of plasma screens is negligible compared to LED technology. Its quality-price ratio is among the best, as it is cheap and excellent for the provision of information. As if that were not enough, the contrast obtained in his images is unprecedented.
  • Images projected on plasma screens arrive very quickly, even with an unexpected power-up. Its viewing angle is not negligible at all and provides even more intense blacks than LED or LCD. The so-called “ghosting” is unlikely on these screens, that is, even if the contents vary quickly, there is not a drastic mark on the screen.

What disadvantages do plasma screens have?

Although the use of plasma screens has become widespread in homes, it is worth noting why we do not use them in digital advertising. First of all, they are really fragile and easily affected during transportation and installation. Compared with LED screens, its useful life is not very long and is estimated at about 30,000 hours, when that of its counterparts amounts to 100,000, even with uninterrupted operation 24 hours a day.

Despite the excellent contrast they offer and the high levels of black and gray, plasma screens provide insufficient brightness to capture the attention of potential customers on the road or in crowded areas. Actually, they are not efficient enough to be used in digital advertising. The LED, meanwhile, is very efficient and useful in this regard.

Conclusions

If it is about advertising, information and entertainment, we will definitely recommend LED screens, due to their precision and homogeneity in images, their brightness, resolution and sharpness. For home use, plasma screens can be more comfortable, cheaper and more useful. At RPG Technology we like to keep you abreast of everything that happens around technology and, as always, we invite you to quote the LED screens that you have been dreaming of for your business for a long time.
